Added Sugar Foods
The type of sugars that are most eaten in the UK are added sugars. Sugar is in many foods that we consume. It’s in tomato sauce, fruit juice, sports drinks, chocolate, yoghurts, cereals, cola, cordials, alcohol, cakes, biscuits and many more products. The “added sugar foods” are the foods we should cut down.
Sugars that are found naturally in milk, fruit and vegetable are not added sugar. We do not need to cut down on these although they should still be considered in our daily intake of sugar.
As we are aware obesity and type two diabetes are amongst the UKs greatest health problems. These problems are mainly the result from what is often termed “addiction to sugar”. Sugar is one of the main causes of tooth decay.
Solving this problem is complicated as it requires reducing the drive to eat unhealthy foods, without an effect on the desire to eat healthy foods. Through some subconscious intervention we know that we can change how a person thinks about sugar.
Symptoms of Sugar Addiction
Do you consume certain foods even though you are not hungry because of cravings?
Do you feel sluggish and fatigued from overeating?
Do you have social and confidence problems through eating and yet still keep eating the wrong foods?
Sugar is thought to be eight times more addictive than cocaine. The more you eat the more likely it is to take hold of your addictive pathways.
When sugar hits the blood stream, it stimulates a release of dopamine and serotonin, the chemicals that make you feel good. This feeling is normally very short lived.
The Truth about Sugar Substitutes
Research has shown that sugar substitutes may leave people craving more sugar, this makes it more difficult to take control.
This programme is three sessions and normally consists of one session a week for three weeks. It includes a downloadable recording for use in-between sessions.
