What is Hopi Candling?
Hopi Candling, otherwise known as Thermal Auricular Therapy, is a very pleasant non-invasive treatment of the ears. It is used to treat a variety of conditions. It is an ancient therapy handed down by many civilisations. It was used by the ancient Greeks and the North American Hopi Indians. The candles are still made today based on the old traditional formula that originated from the Hopi people. Hopi candles are made from a natural beeswax and organically grown flax. Many candles contain Beta-carotene, Chamomile, Honey, Propolis, Sage, and St.Johns Wort.
How do Hopi Candles work?
Being a hollow tube, the centre of the candle is simply a column of air rather than a solid mass. When lit at the top the air in the column warms up. As it burns down the air creates a mild suction action at the base, which helps to loosen compacted ear wax. The ingredients infused in the fabric of the tube are vaporized.
The vapours that drift down the tube into the ear canal produce a gentle sizzling sound the inner causing the structures of the ear to receive a very gentle massage. The ear nose sinuses and throat are all connected, candling regulates and balancing pressure in the ears as well as the whole of the upper respiratory tract.
Users report a soothing light sensation in the ear and head area as the sinuses are drained and cleared. Clearer nasal breathing are often experienced, better hearing (from compacted ear wax loosened) as well as a wonderful feeling of relaxation.
